1978
Dr. Khalid Aziz founded Foundation CMG (original name Computer Modelling Group) at the University of Calgary, Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department before moving to Stanford University in 1982.
1985
As the first President & CEO of Foundation CMG, Frank Meyer expanded the research, initiated transformation to workstation and PC technologies, began visualization research and undertook commercialization. Key researchers at the time included Dr. Long Nghiem, Dr. Dennis Coombe, Dr. Lloyd Buchanan, Dr. David Collins and Dr. Allan Hiebert.
1997 Since that time, CMGL has flourished with expanding research and commercialization of world class reservoir models for industry. With the assets from the IPO, Foundation CMG transformed itself into an endowment-like organization to re-focus on front-end research and students.
A pivotal year for Foundation CMG. Succeeding with commercialization in 25 countries, Foundation CMG created Computer Modelling Group Ltd. (CMGL) as a public company traded on the TSX (Toronto Stock Exchange). All of the research organization, software and business of Foundation CMG transferred into CMGL.
2006
Foundation CMG initiates an Industrial Research Chair Program Worldwide
